Equal footing for women in Islam
“O people! Surely, we created you of a male and female and made you into tribes and families to know each other. The best of you in the sight of God is the most devoted of you.” Qur’an, 49: 13
ياايهاالناس اناخلقناكم من ذكروانثي وجعلناكم شعوباوقبائل لتعارفوا،انٌ اكرمكم عندالله اتقيكم.
Thus, according to this revelation, those who claim that Islam has the most terrible situation against women with regard to men, is absolutely outrageous.
All praise is due to God who made praising as a key word to remember Him and created all things speaking to praise and thank Him.
All praise is due to Him from the beginning to the end of this life and from the starting to the eternity of the life to come. I ask God for good things, refuge to Him from evil devise, and forgiveness for every sin.
All praise is due to God who guided to this faith. If He had not guided, we would have never been guided.
All praise is due to God, The One, the only One, the Unique, the Absolute, the Eternal, who never did He beget, nor was He begotten, none is equal to Him, and all return to Him.
Peace and greeting is due to Mohammad (Praised), whose name is from His name, Mahmud (Praised), and to his family especially the last Imam (AS) on earth.
Those who criticize Islam as a wrong faith are either totally ignorant or fearful about its excellent way of life instructions. They fear that its remarkable and higher grade instructions spread in the whole world. Therefore, they struggle to destroy Islam by their unfounded information, invalid speeches, and empty words.
“They wish to extinguish the guiding light of God by their mouths, but God will perfect His light, even if unbelievers feel disgust. It is He who sent His messenger with guidance and true faith to expose this faith over all religions, even if polytheists (Pagans) feel disgust.” 61:8, 9
‘يريدون ليطفؤانورالله بافواههم،والله ‘متمٌ نوره ولوكره الكافرون. هوالذي ارسل رسوله بالهدي ودين الحق ليظهره علي الدين كله ولوكره المشركون.
Those contending with true Islamic instructions, or humiliating its faithful followers are:
1- Those who neither believe in God nor do they agree that the Qur'an is His revealation.
2- Those who do not know God at all, or they have no idea about Him, or they may think that God is like themselves who love some and hate others.

3- Those who guess that the Qur'an is written by Mohammad (peace is due to him). That is why his instructions are useful to men but harmful to women.
4- Those who think the life-style among Westerners is the only practical way of life. Therefore, they think Islamic life-style is totally wrong. That is why they declare that Islam has a harsh policy against women. In fact, women in real Islam are more valued and supported than those living in other religion. This will be logically discussed later on in detail.
5- Those who know nothing about Islam believe they are truly right to criticize it, while they are absolutely ignorant about it.
6-As a silk worm produces a silk cocoon to protect its pupal stage, it makes itself imprisoned within it; we do exactly the same. It means that we fascinate and imprison ourselves in the shell of our material world, absolutely alien to the outside reality.
“The example of those who take master other than God is like the spider which makes a house but truly the flimsiest house is the spider’s house if they only know.”29: 41
مثل الذين اتخذوامن دون الله اولياء كمثل العنكبوت اتخذت بيتاوانٌ اوخن البيوت لبيت العنكبوت لوكانوايعلمون.
Surely, the Qur'an is not compiled by the prophet
1-He was illiterate to make such a comprehensive book surpassing other Divine books.
2-Its monotony and lack of disparity throughout the book compiled in 23 years strongly proves that this book couldn’t be written by him.
3-He had no detailed knowledge of the scripture or faith before the age 40.
“Thus, We revealed to you the spirit of Our Command when you had no detailed knowledge of scripture or faith, but We made it a light whereby We guide whomever We please from our servants, and surely you guide to a straight path.” 42: 52
وكذلك اوحينا اليك روحامن امرنا،ماكنت تدري ماالكتاب ولاالايمان ولكن جعلناه نورانهدي به من نشاء من عبادنا،وانك لتهدي الي صراط ميتقيم.
“If God had willed, I would not have recited it to you, nor would He have let you know about it. I have lived years among you before the Qur'an was revealed to me. Do you not think to understand?
قل لوشاء الله ماتلوته عليكم ولاادريكم به،فقدلبث فيكم عمرامن قبله، افلاتعقلون؟
4-He might be genius at one branch of knowledge, but definitely he couldn’t be genius at many branches stipulated in the Qur’an.
5-The Qur'an has summoned the whole world to challenge not for its text but for its contents. It has called not only Arab people but others as well to engage in a serious contest to bring a book or 10 verses or one verse, either small or large, or even one Hadith (Narration) similar to it.
6-The Qur’an is revealed to the prophet as his miracle. By definition, miracle means a supernatural work with which others will be disabled to compete, as no body could compete with Moses or Jesus’ miracles.
7-The most stable language in the world is the language of the Qur'an. During 14 centuries no word of it is changed, while all other languages have transformed tremendously just in 3 centuries. This is because God has revealed to protect it from whatsoever corruption.
“We absolutely revealed the Reminder, and absolutely we continuously protect it.” 15: 9
اناٌنحن نزلٌناالذكرواناٌله لحافظون.
8-“Say, ‘The Holy Spirit (Gabriel) brought down the Qur'an from your Lord in truth to convict those who are faithful and provide guidance and good news for surrenders. We do know that they say, ‘A human teaches him the Qur'an whose language is not easily understood, while this Qur'an is in a vivid Arabic description.” 16: 102, 103
قل نزلهٌ روح القدس من ربك بالحق ليثبت الذين أمنواوهدي وبشري للمسلمين. ولقدنعلم انهٌم يقولون انماٌ‘يعلمهٌ بشر،لسان الذي‘يلحدون اليه اعجمي وهذالسان عربي مبين.
“And surely this Qur'an is a gradual revelation from the Lord of the universe. The Faithful Spirit (Gabriel) brought it down to your heart, in a vivid Arabic description, to be one of warners. And actually your prophecy is predicted in the previous scriptures. Is it not a sign for polytheists that your prophecy was known to the learned scholars of the children of Israel? If We had revealed the Qur'an to some non-Arabic foreigners, and he had recited it to them in Arabic, they couldn’t have believed in it.” 26: 193-199
وانهٌ لتنزيل رب العالمين.نزل به الروح الامين علي قلبك لتكون من المنذرين بلسان عربي مبين. وانهٌ لفي زبرالاولين،اولم يكن لهم أيه ان يعلمه علماء بني اسرائيل؟ولونزلناٌه علي بعض الاعجمين فقراه عليهم ماكانوابه مومنين.
Why Arab language is clearer to understanding?
1-The comprehensive rule of Arabic grammar makes this language absolutely the most distinguished ones from others.
2-Verb conjugation has various inflected forms with respect to present and absent person, male and female, and one, two or more persons.
3-Each verb may take 15 differently modified forms with meanings totally various.
4-There is always serious agreements between a noun and related attribute.
5-Pronouns for male and female or for one, two and more persons are specifically unique for each one. That is why Arab language has the least possible ambiguity among others.
6-The plural form of nouns vary with respect to subjective or objective case or when they are as the objective of a preposition. The presence of such a comprehensive rules makes this language almost free of mistake.

This brief presentation supported by rationalities would explain Islamic jurisdiction dedicated to those who are seriously interested in knowing women’s status in Islam. Due to majority of Muslims are overwhelmed with distorting attacks against Islam, and they feel their faith is belittled by various groups. It is our duty to tell the real truths about Islam to disclose their deliberate false claims. Since most Muslims, like followers of other faiths, know nothing about the reality of their own faith, they think that Islam is really a collection of wrong ideologies. But they should know that this kind of attack is mainly the result of the Islamophobia of those who are familiar with the reality of Islam. They feel that such an excellent doctrine will soon expand every where. That is why they attack all the times by all means that they may destroy it through televisions, newspapers, books, pamphlets, and etc.
God, the most High revealed to His messenger, “Have patience; truly, God’s promise is true, but do not let those who are not convinced take your faith too lightly.” 30: 60
فاصبرانٌ وعدالله حق ولايستخفنٌك الذين لايوقنون.
Another reason for making such a presentation against those who find faults with Islam is to display that the real value of women in true Islamic legislation is absolutely opposite to their claim. Because women hold more than half of the world population, they try to cause them seriously to revolt against Islam. Opponents have deliberately claimed that Islam overwhelmed women’ social prestige, but contrary to their allegation, it is stipulated in Islam that women are valued, beyond their inadmissible accusation. This topic will be break down shortly in detail. Unfortunately it should acknowledge that not only overwhelming Muslim women have no idea of their own position in Islam, rather they have wrong information of it. And comparing themselves with their counterpart living in non-Muslim societies, Muslims women think they have lost their life and are really humiliated by being Muslims. So they think they should certainly follow non-Muslims women in order to compensate their falling behind.
It should also emphasize that there is no intention to hurt the feeling of women living in the West by overstating the realities of women’s rights in Islam. Actually the two groups are two aspects of human culture with two different life-styles, and two dissimilar perspectives of mental attitudes. Thus all effort has been made to be fair and rational by yielding tangible facts in order to convince both sides to change their past and present mind. That is the women in the West should not consider their counterparts in the East with scorn, and the women in the East should not overestimate their counterparts in the West to emulate them as a real role model.
As reading this presentation, open-minded criticizers will come to know, that contrary to their false accusation, Islam does not authorize men to beat their wives for their marital violations. Testimony of women is equal to that of men. Their special veiling is not a sign of their contempt but a symbol of modesty, an emblem of dignity, and a means for their protection against lewd men alien to them. Considering their financial duties makes their share of inheritance quite logical and true justice. Those men who disregard legal rights of their wives so inflict them will face severe penalty. Men and women complete each other’s flaws. While they receive equal rewards, they have no preference over each other. In Islamic legislation, of course, women are not authorized to judge cases in a court of law or to serve like soldiers in armed force to fight against enemy. These and many other characters related to their nature will be produced in detail later.
This presentation has been made, in terms of the nature of body and mind of human beings, socio-cultural study of them in Islamic society. And knowing the physical and spiritual nature of both men and women for a fair game is crucial in our study. Disregarding the difference of their feeling capacity, mental capability, physical ability and bodily function would cause anyone to make mistakes about them, as opponents have done many. They think that men and women are very likely so they should be treated similarly.
Let us think about a few facts to see why women should receive the same as men do:
1-Would the universe run correctly if it were solidly of days or nights, of course not?
The sun-light is required for green plants to synthesize high-energy organic molecules from low-energy inorganic molecules with the process of photosynthesis. Green plants take water from the earth and carbon dioxide from the air to combine them to make food and release oxygen during the day. The night cycle of nature would help them to take rest, distribute food for growth, and prepare food for us. Lack of any of the two cycles will expose human being to death. As plant life totally depends on the light-dark cycle of nature, human life absolutely relies on light-dark cycle of nature to have daily activity and nightly rest, otherwise he would die.
“It is from God’s mercy that He created night and day for you to take rest during the night and seek His provision during the day that you may be grateful.” 28: 73
ومن رحمته جعل لكم اليل والنهارلتسكنوافيه وابتغوامن فضله ولعلكم تشكرون.
2-Would our hand functional if it were made solidly of bones or muscles, of course not?
Bones, muscles, joints, nerves, and all sorts of vessels are necessary for hand to function properly. Otherwise lack of any crucial organ makes it unable to function effectively.
3-Would our society run smoothly if it were made solidly of rich or poor, of course not?
If people were all rich no one would work, so they would die of hunger. On the other hand, if they were all poor, they wouldn’t have resource to create business through which they live. Therefore the existence of both rich and poor is necessary for any society in order to run smoothly provided both groups work earnestly with mutual understanding.
اهم يقسمون رحمت ربك،نحن قسمنابينهم معيشتهم في الحيوه الدنياورفعنابعضهم فوق بعض ليتخذ بعضهم سخرياورحمت ربك خيرممابجمعون.
4-Would human assembly perpetuate if it were made only of men or women, of course not? Men and women should mutually be correlated to each other in order to continue their assembly very smoothly, as days and nights are seriously correlated to each other for the harmony of nature and world order. Why did the Compassionate God make everything in pairs? He made everything in pairs in order that life continues and its process runs smoothly. And nothing should get ahead of its own pair, and human being must not be an exception to the general rule. And the following revelations indirectly indicate the situation of men and women on earth.
“Neither is appropriate for the sun to overtake the moon, nor is necessary for the night to get ahead of the day. But each should swim in its orbit (The domain of activity.” 36: 40
لاالشمس ينبغي لهاان‘تدرك القمرولااليل سابق النهار،وكل في فلك يسبحون.
“He who is far away from what is claimed has created everything in pairs such as what the earth produces, human beings themselves, and of what they have no knowledge.” 36: 36
سبحان الذي خلق الازواج كلهامما‘تنبت الارض ومن انفسهم وممالايعلمون.
Therefore the universe will work properly when there are clear contrasts among its components. Consequently men and women should be different to some extent to enjoy living with each other, if not life would be nothing but boring.
A- Women’s level of feeling
Before turning directly to the issue of women, let us seriously consider the sermon 79, from Imam Ali (AS), in his book known as Nahj-Al-Balaga, (The path of eloquence) about women’s special 3 characters.
Imam (AS) has stated that women have 3 distinctive characters, some of which are related to their functional system, while others are connected to their mentality and social behavior. It is just through these special characters that they can differ from men.
1-Because of their exemption for some religious duties such as regular prayers and fasting when coincide with their monthly period, it is thought that women have some defect in faith. But considering their weakness due to their blood discharge, we come to know how much God is Compassionate to them to exempt them until they recover their stamina and become clear of their monthly pollution.
“People ask you about monthly period. Say, ‘It is a harmful period (For their blood discharge and liability to get genitally infected). Thus keep aloof from women during menses and do not approach them until they become clean. Once they clean themselves go to them as God has recommended you. Surely God loves repenters and loves those who keep themselves clean.” 2: 222
ويسئلونك عن المحيض قل هو اذي فاعتزلواالنساء في المحيض ولاتقربوهٌن حتي يطهرن،فاذا تطهرنٌ فاتوهنٌ من حيث امركم الله،انٌ الله‘يحبٌ التوٌابين و‘يحبٌ المتطهٌرين.
2-In Islamic legislation, the women living with their family or under the authority of their husband have no responsibility to finance for the cost of living, because their fathers, brothers or husbands have to do. Bridegroom is usually supposed to give a present to his bride at wedding with her. Man is in charge of giving alimony to his former wife after legal separation or divorce. A part of a deceased man’s real estate should be allotted by law to his widow for her life time. Therefore, allotting half a share of inheritance of males to females should not be considered injustice but an absolute fair-game. Since the ruling system in the West and East regarding men and women’s responsibilities are absolutely different, it is not right to compare these two system with each other to conclude that Islamic rule is outragious.
“God prescribes you regarding the benefit of your children’s inheritance, that a male will inherit twice as much as a female.” 4: 11
‘يوصيكم الله في اولادكم للذكرمثل حظٌ الانثيين.
“If the inheritors of a man are brothers and sisters alone, then the share of a male will be twice as the share of a female. God clarifies to you, lest you go astray, because God has knowledge of all things.” 4: 176
وان كانوااخوه رجالاونساء فللذكرمث خظٌ الانثيين،‘يبيٌن الله لكم ان تضلوٌا،والله بكل شيئ عليم.
3-Naturally women are more susceptible to emotional stimuli than men. Meanwhile the level of their female hormones changes drastically during each monthly period. Therefore their feeling and reaction against external events would be unpredictable and totally different from men whose male hormone does not regularly change. That is why when a woman must bear witness, for cases other than her own, another woman, familiar with feminine feeling, must be present at the scene to remind the other woman if she is subjected to her feeling. In fact, it is a preventive measure to protect verdicts against any possible failure. In addition, it should remind that when two votes are required for making a judgment at a court of law, and two men are not available, one man and one woman shout vote, and the presence of the second woman is for precaution only. But when a woman must defend of herself, her testimony is quite legal against that of a man. The following revelations would reveal that women’s testimonies are equal to men’s testimonies.
“And call to witness two witnesses of your men, but if you did not have two men, then one man and two women whom you approve their faith for testimony among witnesses, so that if one of the them goes astray, the other one reminds her .” 2: 282
واستشهدواشهيدين من رجالكم،فان لم يكونارجلين فرجل وامراتان ممن ترضون من الشهداء ان تضلٌ احديهمافتذكراحديهماالاخري.
“Those who accuse their own wives of adultery with no witness except themselves, then his testimony will be accepted if he swears by God 4 times that he is telling the truth, and at the fifth time he will call down upon himself the curse of God if he is liar. And she will avert the punishment if she takes oath for 4 times by God that he is a liar, and she will call down upon herself the curse of God, at the fifth time, if he is telling the truth.” 24: 6-9
والذين يرمون ازواجهم ولم يكن لهم شهداء الاانفيهم فشهادهاحدهم اربع شهادات بالله انه لمن الصادقين.والخامسه ان لعنت الله عليه ان كان من الكاذبين.ويدرواعنهاالعذاب ان تشهداربع شهادات بالله انه لمن الكاذبين.والخامسه انٌ غضب الله عليهاان كان من الصادقين.
Though this issue is brought in the book of Numbers, chapter 5: 11-31, it is nothing but to humiliate the real value of women. In this section of the Old-Testament all credit is given to man because he brings his wife to the priest just by the spirit of his jealousy, while the priest is not sure if his wife has violated the chastity of herself or not. Upon his claim only, he judges unilaterally just by putting woman under oath to see if she has lain with a man other than her husband or not, whereas man is free from questioning to make known if he is liar or not. In other words, the priest takes for granted that all charges against woman all right without asking him to bring any witness.

As for this sermon, Ali (AS) does not imply that man is perfect but woman is not. Actually, he indirectly made evident two separate things simply related to the different nature of man and woman. As you may know the level of understanding of men and women has never been perfect; despite this, women’ intelligence are additionally subjected to be disturbed more, because their feelings are susceptible to the serious change of the level of female hormones.
Could the Omnipotent, Omniscient God create men and women perfect?
He could create them perfect but they couldn’t live long. As He made eagle-eyed very keen to see far and away, mice’s ears very sharp to low and high-pitch sounds, the sense of smell in police-dog highly sensitive; He could create human-being perfect in his senses, but human couldn’t sleep for hearing all sounds all the time. He couldn’t eat because of finding his food polluted with all micro-organisms, and he couldn’t take rest because of restlessness due to high sensitivity of smell until dying. Is it then possible for man to have a perfect mind, which is nothing but resultant of sense organs, while all senses are not perfect?
As a result, we have realized that if the Most Compassionate God has made man imperfect through His wisdom, He granted him all-purpose knowledge to compensate his imperfection in every respect of life. Thus one can say, “If God closes a door before us by Wisdom, He will open another door before us through Mercy.
خداگرزحکمت ببندد دری         زرحمت گشایددردیگری
As you may know, both man and woman would grow their understanding as they pass their time but they never reach the top level of perfection.
A new born infant has no understanding. Living in a sack of water but absolute dark space makes the fetus see or hear nothing. Therefore its mind cannot develop until it is delivered. But fetus can feel the vibration of its mother’s vocal voice, when she reads something aloud. In such a case her voice would be audible because the vibration of vocal cord will transmit to its ears through amniotic fluid. This case is proved true recently at Cornell Medical School.
Having no defect in his senses, a new-born baby gradually develops his mind and understanding. He has no sense of relief, for instance, but by touching a carpet flower and a real flower on a bush, his sense of relief will develop step by step. In the same way, he will develop a whole picture of a dog in his mind by seeing, hearing its bark, and feeling its bite.
“God brought you out of your mothers’ bellies knowing nothing, but He put in you hearing, sight and mind that you may appreciate for having those faculties and applying them properly.” 16: 78
والله اخرجكم من بطون امهاتكم لايعلمون شيئاوجعل لكم السمع والابصاروالافئده لعلكم تشكرون.
Man is endowed with faculties to use them appropriately, drive pleasure from them, and thank God for having them. Despite being in a light room, one can hardly find desiring things when his eyes are tightly covered. On the other hand, it would be very easy to find things desired in the same room when his eyes are wide open. Being entered in a dark room with open eyes to find something, one must grope for it that may find it. Therefore for recovering something lost, one needs light and open eyes. Man will be the worst creatures in the sight of God when he is deaf and dumb. In other words, hearing must be open to the truths and close to the falsehoods, but if it is open to the falsehoods and close to the truths he would be a real deaf. The same is absolutely true for eyes, when it cannot see the true nature of things but the visible defects of them, he will be a real blind. When those who criticize Islam don’t know anything about it but only reverberating false rumors about it, are numb and deaf in the sight of God.
“Truly the worst living creatures in the sight of God are the deaf and dumb who do not mind. Had God known of any virtue in them, He would have made them hearer. But even if He had made them hearer, they would have turned away in opposition.” 8: 22, 23
انٌ شرٌالدوابٌ عندالله الصمٌ البكم الذين لايعقلون. ولوعلم الله فيهم خيرالاسمعهم ولو اسمهم لتولٌواوهم معرضون.
“We already created for Hell most of jinn and human, because they have mind with which they do not understand correctly, they have eyes with which they do not see the true nature of things, and they have ears with which they do not hear the truths. Though they are human but they are like animals even more stray, they are the negligent.” 7: 179
ولقدذرانالجهنم كثيرامن الجن والانس، لهم قلوب لايفقهون بها،لهم اعين لايبصرون بها،لهم أذان لايسمعون بها،اولئك كالانعام بل هم اضل،اولئك هم الغافلون.
“How many cities have We utterly destroyed for their people were transgressors, and how many wells and plastered palaces were abandoned? Why do they not then travel through the land to understand with their minds, and listen the truths by ears? Truly their eyes are not blind to see but the hearts in their chests are, because they see the truths but do not think why all those facts happened? 22: 45, 46
فكايٌن من قريه اهلكناها وهي ظالمه فهي خاويه علي عروشهاوبئرمعطلهٌ وقصرمشيد. افلم يسيروا في الارض فتكون لهم قلوب يفقهون بهااوأذان يسمعون بها،فانهٌا لاتعمي الابصارولكن تعمي القلوب التي في الصدور.
B-Half-way guardianship of men over women
Despite people have authority to do what they want to, they deliberately select by vote for a president to govern their own country. While taking away their own authority, people willingly permit him to exercise the power of veto even it is against their own wills or against their own interest. To discipline an enterprise well a qualified manager is usually nominated; otherwise, such a business would be bankrupt or fall into a total chaos. Yet when the All-Knowing God appoints men just as half-way guardians of women to take care of their intimate relation between husband and wife by their wealth, overwhelming people object this sort of arrangement. It should mention though men have the capacity to guardian in conjugal life with their wives, they have no authority to intervene with their personal, social or economical independence.
“Once wives fulfilled their waiting period, there is no blame upon you for what they decently do with themselves.” 2: 234
فاذابلعن اجلهن فلاجناح عليكم فيمافعلن في انفسهنٌ بالمعروف.
“Men are guardian of women for God has preferred some of them above others and for what they spend of their wealth for maintaining and taking care of them. Thus the righteous women are obedient and guardian of their husband’s interests when they are absent as God has ordered. As for those women whom you fear for the violation of their marital duties, first talk and admonish them, next desert them to go in one bed, and then desert them to take a trip for a while. If they yield to you, do not take any further action against them. Truly God is the Most High, the Sublime. And if you fear lack of agreement between them, but they decide to reconcile, appoint an arbiter from his family and an arbiter from her family to arbitrate. God will bring them together again. Truly God is all-Knowing, all-Wise.” 4:34, 35
الرجال قوامون علي النساء بمافضلٌ الله بعضهم علي بعض وبماانفقوامن اموالهم،فالصالحات قانتات حافظات للغيب بماحفظ الله،والتي تخافون نشوزهٌن فعظوهنٌ واهجروهنٌ في المضاجع واضربوهنٌ، فان اطعنكم فلاتبغواعليهنٌ سبيلا،انٌ الله كان علياكبيرا. وان خفتم شقاق بينهمافابعثواحكمامن اهله وحكمامن اهلها،ان‘يريدااصلاحا،‘يوفقٌ الله بينهما،انٌ الله كان عليما خبيرا.
“People were once a single community. Since man cannot live alone, because he is a gregarious being, he needs to live with the company of others of the same kind. But the most powerful people in their communities usually exploit others for their own more benefits. That is why God, the Most Compassionate dispatched messengers as bearers of good news and warners, and sent down with them scriptures, bearing the truths to judge among the people and solve what they differed. Ironically those who received evidences differed and committed outrage among each other.” 2: 213
كان الناس امه واحده فبعث الله نبيينٌ مبشرين ومنذرين،وانزل معهم الكتاب بالحق ليحكم بين الناس فيمااختلفوافيه،ومااختلف فيه الاالذين اوتوه من بعدماجائتهم البينات بغيابينهم.
We may dispatch Our messengers with clear proofs and send down with them the scripture and the scale in order that people uphold justice.” 57: 25

Why beating women in this revelation is not a right choice?
1- The four punitive measures stipulated in this verse do not match with the Quranic approach at all. This is because the hierarchical order considered throughout the Qur'an is in gradual increasing or regular decreasing order, while the order in this verse is totally out of order.
2-The four disciplinary steps for a woman violating her marital duties are not in the same order. The first two steps (Reproving her kindly but seriously, and separating her bed) have negative sense, the third step (Beating her) has an impression of brutality, and the last step (Arbitration) has a sense of peacefulness. Therefore they are not compatible with the routine order in the Qur'an.
3-Furthermore, the sequence of these measures does not seem logical, in other words, taking the case to arbitration, as a peaceful agreement, after beating or harsh movement, does not make sense at all. In addition, punitive measure for violating marital duties cannot be very lightly, because it is mentioned in different section of the Qur'an that adulterer and adulteress should be whipped each one hundred strokes without feeling any pity to them in public.
4-More over, it has not been revealed that if woman did not yield, what would be the limit of her punishment beyond beating.
“Whip each adulterer and adulteress a hundred lashes, and do not feel pity for them in complying with God’s religion, if you truly believe in God and the life to come, and let a group of believers witness their punishment.” 24” 2
الزانيه والزاني فاجلدواكل واحدمنهما ماته جلده،ولاتاخذبهمارافه في دين الله ان كنتم مومنين بالله واليوم الاخر،وليشهدعذابهماطائفه من المونين.
5-Word “Zarb” dose not necessarily means beating in this verse. This word has many different shades of meaning one of them which looks the right choice in this text is traveling.
6-After all, most people are not morally qualified to advise, criticize or punish, are they? Only those who are truly righteous, their advices for offensive attitudes of their marital partners would be effective. Otherwise those who are tied up with indecency wouldn’t be competent to criticize others, let alone to beat them.
Consequently, taking these steps seems quite logical for a husband and wife involved in some marital disorders, yet they wish to compromise: That is, talking kindly but seriously, separating their bed, making a trip for being away from home for a short while, and finally taking the case to arbitration if they still wish to continue their conjugal life.
The heart is one of the most vital organs in the body. Despite this, it does not oppress any organ. Why should not man, as maintainer of family, learn from the nature of the heart to serve his family without exercising oppression?
An evaluation from heart’s function, anyone can take good hints how to handle his intimate family and behave his society. Our heart receives poor quality blood from other parts of the body. But it does never use it for itself nor does it spread out to other organs; it rather sends it to the lung where it removes carbon dioxide from it and provides it with oxygen to make it into well oxygenated blood. After receiving such a good quality blood, the heart first takes its share to have enough energy to be able to perform its job well. It then distributes the rest of it to other parts of the body. Failure to do any one of its due duties to deliver all shares to other organs proportionally, the heart itself will die and the death of the body will happen suddenly. If it does not deliver the blood to other organs but save it for itself, immediately it will burst because of lack of room for such a huge amount of blood. And the burst of the heart is equal to a sudden death of the body. But if it dedicates all blood to other organs without saving any share for itself, it will die due to lack of oxygen thereby the whole body will die too because of lack of oxygen.
It is true that the heart is one of the most vital organs in the body, but it should work according to its assigned duties, otherwise a classical tragedy will happen immediately.
Man and woman hold high positions in each community. Each of them is committed to some duties, according to their natural capability, violating any of which causes terrible corruption in their society.
Though God, the Absolute Just has appointed man as a guardian of his family, it does not necessarily mean that he has absolute authority to do whatever he wants to do. Learning from their body, both men and women should be honest in their duties against each other in their marital life. It means that whatever good they wish for themselves, they should love the same for his or her partner, and whatever they hate for themselves, they should dislike for their partners.

C-Equal footing for women
Our intention in this section is to see women are humiliated in Islam or contrary to general opinion they are actually more estimated than they expect. Then we want to see, according to this investigation, which kind of women should be the prototype for modern women, the women lived at the beginning of Islam such as Khadijah, Fatema, or Zeinab (Peace be upon them), the wife, daughter and grand daughter of the Prophet, or regular women living in the west, or movies stars displaying typical life in the West?
Human beings consist of men and women, with the predominance of women over men.
While they form a group to live, work, and enjoy the company of others; their personal interests cause them to exploit others for making the greatest possible benefit. Therefore every society made a system of rules to enforce people to comply with its own rules. Not only are man-made rules incomplete, and law-makers have to make amendments to them all the time, but influential people take advantage to put the same ruling system into effect to their own benefit through exerting influence and power to oppress others.
God has made men to be guardian over women for certain but not all cases, meanwhile He sent His messengers with scriptures bearing the truths and rules to judge among people, resolve their conflicts, remind their duties, restrict their authority, and punish those who abuse their office granted to them to hurt their subordinates.
God made both man and woman equally. They are absolutely alike in the sight of Him. No matter what they may be, God would love both equally otherwise it would be against His absolute justice. Contrary to public opinion that believes Islam is antifeminist, this religion regards women with respect beyond what opponents allege. In true Islamic society, man and woman have equal footing. It is not an empty claim but a reality supported with many reasons coming soon. While they perfect each other’s flaws, they have their own special value and every soul is in charge of what it has earned. Overwhelming people believe that women are like dolls which need to be dressed stylishly and adorned materially without being cared spiritually. Most people believe that the style living in non-Muslim countries should be a criterion for all women in the world. In other words, people think women should not be restricted either inside or outside of home, as men are. They state that restriction of women outside of home is outrageous, and it is nothing but disregarding their civil rights. In non-Muslim countries, women freely adorn and dress themselves stylishly to go outside, while they do not care to be more attractive for their own legal husbands and close relatives. Islam does not allow women be treated like dolls to be molested or harassed by foreign men outside of their houses without having rules to punish them. In Islamic legislation, no one either man or woman can go scot-free without being punished if they purposely violate modesty rules.
Following revelations, addressed to every one, not only remind equal rule for both men and women, but reveal their duties.
“Everyone will be held in pledge for what he has earned.” 52: 21
كلٌ امرء بماكسب رهين.
“Every soul will be held in pledge for what it has earned.” 74” 38
كلٌ نفس بماكسبت رهينه.
“Women are as garment for men, and men are garment for women.” 2: 186
هنٌ لباس لكم وانتم لباس لهنٌ.
To display perfectly how women can be garment for men and vice versa, one can find out the best interpretation of garment from this revelation.
“O children of Adam! We sent you a garment which would cover your shames, and a garment for your luxury, and a garment of righteousness which is the best. This is from the signs of God that you may remember.” 7: 26
يابني أدم قد انزلناعليكم لباسايوأري سواتكم وريشا، ولباس التقوي ذلك خير،ذلك من أيات الله لعلهم يذكرون.
Hidden sex-inclination in those who chose to remain unmarried would drive them in one way or another of lewdness against normal values. That is why Islam has strongly prescribed marriage, but seriously proscribed monasticism for both men and women.
“Give in marriage those of you who are single and those of your male and female slaves who are righteous. If they are poor God will enrich them by His favor. God is All-Encompassing, All-Knowing.” 24: 32
وانكحواالايامي والصالحين من عبادكم وامائكم،ان يكونوافقراء‘يغنيهم الله من فضله والله واسع عليم.
“Do not wish for something by which God has preferred some of you over others. Men will have shares according to what their nature necessitates it and women have shares according to what their nature makes it necessary. Ask God only for His grace, truly God has knowledge over all things.” 4: 32
ولاتتمنوامافضل الله به بعضكم علي بعض،للرجال نصيب مماكتسبواوللنساء نصيب ممااكتسبن، واسئلواالله من فضله،انٌ الله بكل شيئ عليما.
“And their Lord answered them that never will I frustrate the work of any worker either male or female, because you are equal to one another.” 3: 195
فاستجاب لهم ربهم انيٌ لا‘اضيع عمل عامل منكم من ذكراوانثي، بعضكم من بعض.
“And whoever works righteousness either male or female, provided he is believer, will enter the Paradise without being wronged to the slightest amount (tiny spot on a date pit).” 4: 124
ومن يعمل من الصالحات من ذكراوانثي وهومومن فاوليك يدخلون الجنه ولا يظلمون نقيرا.
“And whoever works righteousness either male or female, provided he is believer, will enter the Paradise wherein they will be provided with unlimited provision.” 40: 40
ومن عمل صالحامن ذكراوانثي وهومومن فاليك يدخلون الجنه‘يرزقون فيهابغيرحساب.
“Whoever works righteousness either male or female, provided he is believer surely We will revive him to a happy life and surely We will repay their reward to the best of what they were doing.” 16: 97
من عمل صالحامن ذكراوانثي وهو مومن فلنخييننه حيوة طيبه ولنجزينهم اجرهم باحسن ماكانوا يعملون.
Looking at those revelations would establish that men and women will be rewarded to the best, provided they are believers. This is because man is not perfect to be able to decide correctly, while God is perfect and guides man to his best interest. Therefore true believers live in a light upon light situation, whereas disbelievers live in a dark upon dark position, according to other revelations.
“This is because disbelievers follow falsehood, while believers follow the truth only from their Lord.” 47: 3
ذلك بان الذين كفروااتبعواالباطل وانٌ الذين أمنوااتبعواالحق من ربهم.
“This is because God is the protector of believers, while disbelievers have no protector at all. “ 47: 11
ذلك بانٌ الله مولي الذين أمنواوانٌ الذيين كفروالامولي لهم.
“O believers, if you truly fear God, He will give you the power of distinction to judge correctly between true and false, cover your misdeeds, and forgive your sins.” 8: 29
ياايهاالذين أمنواان تتقواالله يجعل لكم فرقاناويكفرٌعنكم سيأتكم ويغفرلكم.
“Can a man who was dead and We revived and provided him with light to move among people, be compared with him who is in total darkness that getting out of which is never possible? In this way what disbelievers were doing is decorated.” 6: 122
اومن كان ميتافاحييناه وجعلناله نورايمشي به في الناس كمن مثله في الظلمات ليس بخارج منها، كذلك‘زينٌ للكافرين ماكانوايعملون.
Meaningful metaphors in this revelation should be mentioned to understand the reality of different levels of life in living beings. Death means error. Faith and guidance means life. Revival means guiding to have faith. Light means finding ways for righteousness. And deep darkness means total ignorance.
Deep looking at different living things, one would realize that they should have various levels of life, though they are in common for their breathing, nutrition and growth.
1-Plant life just means to breath, eat and grow.
2-Animal life means to move in addition to what plants do.
3-Low-profile human life means to be conscious in addition to what animals do, though their conscious is asleep, numb or even dead.
“And those who disbelieve enjoy and eat as cattle do but their destiny will be Fire.” 47: 12
والذين كفروايتمٌتعون وياكلون كماتاكل الانعام والنارمثوي لهم.
The Lord God created man from clay originally. He mixed it with water to be mud. By leaving it, mud got fetid. Then He dried it to become dry clay. Therefore man is made of dry fetid clay, that is, He made man of a very low quality material. But when He combined it with His soul, it becomes a man. If his soul in not as active and sharp as it should be, he will be a regular man with low-profile. That is why when the soul of God leaves it at death, its fetidness appears.
“And when your Lord said to the angels, ‘Surely, I am going to create a man from dry fetid clay, so when I made him complete and breathed into him My Soul, then fell down before him in prostration.” 15: 28, 29
واذقال ربك للملائكه انيٌ خالق بشرامن صلصال من حماء مسنون،فاذاسةيتهٌ ونفخت من روحي فقعواله ساجدين.
4-High-profile human life means to be clearly conscious in addition to have animal life.
“You will never find any people who faithfully believe in God and the Last Day, befriend those who oppose God and His messenger, even if they were their parents, children, siblings or tribes. This is because He has firmly established faith in their hearts and supported them with His own Spirit.” 58: 22
لاتجدقومايؤمنون بالله واليوم الاخر‘يوادونٌ من حادٌالله ورسوله ولوكانواأبائهم اوابنائهم اواخوانهم اوعشيرتهم،اولئك كتب علي قلوبهم الايمان وايدٌهم بروح منه.
One of the outnumbered revelations typically displaying equality between men and women is this, mean while it reminds that righteous men and women couldn’t be out of these 10 groups, and God will remunerate them for their work equally!
“Surely God has prepared forgiveness and great reward for: 1)submitting men and women, 2)believing men and women, 3)the obedient men and women, 4)the truthful men and women, 5)the patient men and women, 6)the humble men and women, 7)alms-givers men and women, 8)fasting men and women, 9)the chaste men and women, 10) and men and women commemorating God frequently.” 33:35
انٌ المسلمين والمسلمات،والمومنين والمومنات،والقانتين والقانتات،والصادقين والصادقات، والصابرين والصابرات،والخاشعين والخاشعات،والمتصدقين والمتصدقات،والصائمين والصائمات، والحافظات فروجهم والحافظات،واذاكرين الله كثيراوالذكرات اعدٌاللهلهم مغفره واجراعظيما.
D- Women gained their real value in Islam only.
Before emerging Islam, for many reasons, girl infanticide was prevalent among Arab polytheists.
“When one of them was announced with the birth of a baby girl, his face remained dark and filled with suppressed anger. He should disappear from people for the sake of the evil news announced to him or should keep her with contempt or should bury her in dust. Indeed what an evil judgment they make.” 16: 58, 59
واذا‘بشرٌاحدهم بالانثي ظلٌ وجهه مسوداٌوهوكظيم. يتواري من القوم من سوء ما‘بشرٌبه،ايمسكه علي هون ام يدسهٌ في الترابز ألاساء مايحكمون.
The most distinguished Prophet severely criticized those who buried their new born girls alive. He warned them if such an outrageous custom become prevalent, your generation will soon be extinct and there will be no future generation in the world tomorrow. How do you think they are source of shame, whereas God (SWT) is the best creator and created all of you equally? And He brought them into existence through you, if you convince they should be killed, because they are source of shame, you should be killed too. How do you kill them pitilessly while you should be born in future through them? And if you think they do not deserve to live, then how do you believe you deserve to live?
“To God belongs the kingdom of the heavens and earth. He creates whatever He wills, granting female to whomever He wills, and granting male to whomever He wills.”42: 49
لله ملك السموات والارض،يخلق مايشاء،يهب لمن يشاء اناثاويهب لمن يشاء الذكور.
I would remind you that surely you will be asked then punished on the Day of Judgment for killing them due to your ignorance and prejudice.
“When the buried live girl infant will be asked for what sin she was killed.” 81: 8, 9
واذاالمؤده‘سئلت بايٌ ذنب‘قتلت.
It should mention that if women had no worth in the sight of God, God wouldn’t disclose so many revelations regarding every aspect of their life throughout the Qur'an in different chapters such as: chapter 2, 4, 24, 33, 58, 60, 64, 65, 66, 81.
Looking at the chapter 58, for instance, you will realize how quick and effective was the compassionate God’s response toward a woman, complaining about her distress exercised by her husband.
“God has already answered to the request of a woman who argued with you about her husband and complained to God about her adversity. God hears your discussion because He hears and sees everything. Those of you who divorce their wives, according to the pre-Islamic divorce, (By saying to their wives, you are to me like my mother’s back) should know that they are not their mothers. Their real mothers are indeed those who give them birth. Truly what they say is forbidden and falsehood. Indeed God is pardoner, forgiver. The atonement for those who have divorced their wives by (Zihar) but they wish to go back of what they had said is freeing a slave before resuming their sexual relation. You are admonished by this that God is aware of what you do. If there is no slave to make free (Expectation of slavery emancipation), he should fast for two months in a row before keeping in touch with one another. And if he is unable to do so, then let him feed 60 indigent. This is for you to believe in God and His messenger, and these are God’s limits, and disbelievers will have humiliating punishment.” 58: 1-5
قدسمع الله قول التي‘تجادلك في زوجهاوتشتكي الي الله،والله يسمع تحاوركما،انٌ الله سميع بصير. الذين‘يظاهرون من نسائهم ماهنٌ امهاتهم،ان امهاتهم الائي ولدنهم،وانهم ليقولون منكرامن القول وزورا،وانٌ الله لعفوغفور.والذين‘يظاهرون من نسائهمثم يعودون لماقالوافتحريررقبه من قبل ان يتماسا،ذلكم‘توعظون به،والله بماتعملون خبير.فمن لم يجدفصيام شهرين متتابعين من قبل ان يتماسا،فمن لم يستطع فاطعام ستينٌ مسكينا،ذلك لتؤمنوابالله ورسوله،وتلك حدودالله،وللكافرين عذاب اليم.
As we can see, there are 3 kinds of severe atonements for the oppression of men against their wives. In this manner God would remind those who oppress their wives not go back to pre-Islamic law, otherwise they will be punished severely. And without considering this severe punishment, disbelievers state that Islam is the most terrible religion against women. In fact, no jurisdiction in Islam is more emphatic than that of women’s issues. Suffice it to produce a handful of them to convey our proof. But it should stipulate that, in all fairness, there are similar rights for and against women. 2: 228
ولهنٌ مثل الذي عليهنٌ بالمعروف.
Two sacred traditions from God have declared that Fatemah (AS), the daughter of the Prophet (Peace and greeting is due to him and his family) had a key position among other distinguished members of her group.
Addressing to the dwellers of the heavens, God (SWT) said, ‘The people of Kisa (Clothes) are Fatemah and her father, her husband, and her children. Thus Fatemah (AS) was the center of God’s attention. O Mohammad, if you were not, I wouldn’t create firmament, and if Ali were not, I wouldn’t create you, and if Fatemah were not, I wouldn’t create both of you. This sacred tradition would imply that God made the earth to establish His religion on earth. Therefore, all prophets, supported with Holy Spirit from Adam through Jesus (AS), came to pave some part of God’s religion. And the seal of the Prophets, Mohammad and his family came to promote a full-blown religion and convey it to the people all around the world. Consequently, as all various contractors are necessary to build a building and neither of them can be disregarded; neither original scriptures nor prophets prior to Mohammad can be disregarded.
And this is a sample of real standing position of distinguished women in Islam.
I-Honorable Khadijeh (AS), the wealthiest woman of Arab family asked Mohammad, who was poor and illiterate but very honest, if he would like to be her husband. Back in 14 centuries ago, she did something odd which was not customary in the history. Not only did she offer to undertake all wedding expenses, but she proposed to spend all she had to support Islam as well. So that no money was left for her to by a piece of shroud to be wrapped her body after death. But she did not ask her husband about it directly, so she asked her youngest daughter, Fatemah to ask her father about her shroud. Why didn’t you tell me directly about shroud, her husband asked her? I had never asked you for anything in our marital life, because I knew you had nothing at hand to spend for our needs, she answered. And this time, I was ashamed to see the blush of poverty in your face by my question. Don’t worry, the prophet said, I will make my outer garment your shroud.
Could we find such a modest, understanding, devoted, and considerate wife among the women of today to be so self-controlled that after spending 28 years does not ask her husband once for her personal need? And could we expect from such a lovely and self-denying wife and mother to raise a daughter spiritually wonderful better than Fatemah?
II-Fatema (AS) was her husband’s avant-garde. While defending her husband behind the front door of her house, she was severely hurt and aborted her son, Mohssen. When the prophet was at the peak of power and fame, most influential and wealthy men, like Abu- bakr, came to take Fatemah as a wife but her answer was negative as always. Despite Ali (AS) who had nothing but an unmixed faith, as well as a sword and breast-plate; she accepted to be his wife. Selling his breast-plate, Ali (AS) bought a wedding dress for Fatemah (AS). Having heard about her wedding, a woman dressed in ragged clothes, came to the door and said, I want to attend your wedding but I am afraid I cannot because my clothe is threadbare. Fatemah (AS) gave her wedding dress which loved very much, and asked her to attend my wedding. When the prophet saw his daughter with her old dress at wedding, asked her, “Why didn’t you put on your new wedding dress which you loved? I bestowed upon a woman dressed in threadbare clothe to be able to attend my wedding, she replied. The prophet said, “But you loved it for it was a special to you for tonight.” I bestowed it for the pleasure of God, because God has revealed so.
“You never obtain righteousness unless you give in charity of what you love, and whatever you give in charity is absolutely known to God.” 3: 92
لن تنالواالبرٌحتي ‘تنفقوامما‘تحبونٌ،وما‘تنفقوامن شيئ فانٌ الله به عليم.
She lived plainly with her husband and children, their foods were plain. During days, she was busy to take care of children, prepare fresh rye flour to make rye bread; and every night, after midnight, she used to wake up to pray others for hours. When her son, Hassan asked her, “Mama, you were imploring God hours for others instead of imploring for yourself?” Neighbor is first, and the household is next, she replied. Because she knew that praying at dark night, when outside world is silent, and inside mind is calm, earnest praying would be more effective than praying during tumultuous hours of day.
“Truly arising at night is more difficult measure but the word spoken is more effective.”73: 6
انٌ ناشئه اليل هي اشدٌ وطاُ واقوم قيلا.
When she was asked, why don’t adorn yourself with jewels or apply any cosmetic? She replied woman should be internally and spiritually beautiful for God and her close relative only.
Fatemah (AS) seriously supported her husband at any moment in her life. When Hassan and Hussein, their children became sick both of them made a pledge to fast for three days until they get well. As they wanted to break fast, at the first day, a destitute man came to the door asking for food, and they gave their favorite food which was nothing but loafs of rye bread to him and they drank water instead of food. The same situation happened for the second and the third day, and they gave their only food to a destitute, an orphan and a captive, and water was their only means for fast and breakfast.
Could we find any family more frugal than Ali, his wife and his children, peace upon all of them, for having very simple life?
When Ali (AS) was taken to the Mosque by force to make allegiance with the first Caliph, she made a comprehensive speech for public about the whole history of Islam. It was the first time in her life to make a lengthy speech addressing to all Muslims, while she was suffering from pain and bleeding, she started praising God, mentioned the great efforts of her father and husband for victory of Islam and making it fruitful. She reminded, once more, to all Muslims about their duties before God after the departure of the Prophet. Finally she died at age 18 years old about 70 days after the departure of her father. And she had advised her husband to bury her secretly at night without informing anybody about her death to come and attend her funeral.
III- Lady Zeinab (AS), the daughter of Fatema and Ali (AS) loved her bother Hussein very much, so she was with him all the time. Once her father Ali (AS) was the ruler of Islam, she used to interpret the Qur'an for women in Kuffeh.

During the journey with her brother, Hussein (AS) to Karbala, she displayed that she was nothing but a mountain of patience with all those physical, moral and spiritual distresses during such an afflicting journey. With her marvelous influence in speech, she warned and blamed all people who attended to kill her brother in the itinerary from Karbala to Kuffeh to Damascus. She severely blamed negligent people and awakened them of their serious sins on account of godly Imam and his companions. Yazid said, ‘We took revenge from the descendents of Mohammad because he and his companions had killed his polytheist ancestors. Zeinab rose and said, O Yazid, God has revealed that the outcome of those who did evil, had to be nothing but evil because they denied God’s revelations and were ridiculing them.” 30: 10
ثم كان عاقبه الذين اساؤاالسواان كذبواٌبأيات الله وكانوابهايستهزؤن.
O yazid, did you kill the godly persons and the children of the Holy prophet just as the polytheists of Mecca become happy? Do you think we are humble and despicable owing to the martyrdom of our men and our own captivity? Do you think that you have blocked all paths for us? Do think that God has taken away His blessings from us? Do you believe that your visible victory for killing the godly men is a sign of grace and kindness of the Almighty upon you, and for this and on account of your wrong thinking you are elated and arrogant? You must have forgotten what the Almighty God has revealed in this respect. “Disbelievers must never think that Our respite is for their good, We only give them time to let them increase their sins until they deserve for a humiliating punishment.” 3: 178
ولايحسبنٌ الذينكفرواانماٌ‘نملي لهم خيرالانفصعم، انما‘نملي لهم ليزدادوااثماولهم عذاب مهين.
The Lady Zeinab reminded Yazid that when her grand father defeated the people of Mecca and emancipated it from polytheists, he favored them to make free all men and women, including Yazid, and told them, ‘Go, and all of you are free.”
O son of freed persons, is it just to keep your women and slave girls in seclusion, but make the helpless daughters of the Holy prophet ride on swift camels, exposed to the sight of the alien, and given them in the hand of enemies to take them from one city to another under the slashes of whipping? What would be your answer on the Day of Judgment for all those inequities, injustices and unfairness? Our blood is dripping from your hands, our flesh is falling from your mouths, the sacred bodies are left at the disposal of the desert wolves, and our children without being fed are inflicted under the slashes of whipping.
At the end the daughter of Fatemah (AS) thanked God and said, ‘I thank God who concluded the task of the chiefs of the youths of paradise with prosperity, forgiveness and accommodation in Paradise, for God is Omnipotent, Compassion and Merciful.
E-Veiling as a token of protection and modesty but not humiliation
Veiling in Islamic legislation is applied for both men and women but differently ordered.
Hijaab or veiling, contrary to what general people believe, is not simply to cover some part of the body, but it is more serious which can be found in Islam only. In the chapter 24, the definition for veiling is outlined separately for men and women, because young women is given more attention to be dignified, protected and supported in any society than when they are at their climacteric age, when they have no hope to get married again, while men have their own rule of veiling throughout their life.
Addressing to the prophet, “Command the believing men to cast down their eyes (Not fixedly look at alien women intently and steadily) and maintain their private parts from alien people. This is purer for them. Actually God is well aware for what they do.” 24” 30
قل للمومنين يغضٌواابصارهم ويخفظوافروجهم،ذلك ازكي لهم، انٌ الله خبيربمايصنعون.
“And command the believing women to cast down their eyes (Not fixedly look at alien men intently and steadily) and maintain their private parts from alien people and not display the place of their natural ornament save those are evident such their face, two palms and two soles, and they should draw their head covering over their bosoms and not display their beauty unless to seven intimate groups of their husbands, fathers, husbands’ fathers, sons, husbands’ sons, brothers, brothers’ sons, sisters’ sons, their women, whom their right hands possess, male servants not familiar with sex drive, and children not reached puberty. They should not strike their feet when walking to reveal their hidden ornaments. And all of you should turn in repentance to God, O believers that you may success.” 24: 31
“There is no blame on elderly women who do not expect to get married to put aside their outer garment provided they do not reveal their beauty. To maintain their modesty is the best for them while God is All-Hearing, All-Knowing.” 24: 60
والقواعد من النساء التي لايرجون نكاحافليس عليهن ان يضعن ثيابهنٌ غيرمتبرجات بزينه، وان يستعففن خيرلهنٌ، والله سميع عليم.
“O believers, your servants and those who have not yet reached the puberty, should take your permission on three occasions, before coming to your presence. That is before dawn prayer when you are not properly covered, at noon when you change your clothes to take rest, and after the late night prayer when you are going to bed. The three time of your private life that you are undressed. At other times, it is nothing wrong with you and them to move around and attend you. God thus clarifies the revelations to you; for God is All-Knowing, All-wise.”24-58
One can make an analogy of a man and woman with something otherwise dissimilar to an iron and mirror. Assuming that man as an iron and woman as a mirror, and a precious mirror and a good kind of iron are among your personal belongings to pack. And you are about to take a trip. What should you do to save the mirror for sure? Do you pack them randomly or do you specially pack them separately from one another? Do you pack them side by side no matter what would happen because you have no experience? What would you do after a bad experience of your previous trip? Do you ever put them again beside each other with no protection? Or do you wrap the mirror very carefully for its fragility, but you wrap the iron for precaution? You know that wrapping an iron is not necessary, but you wrap it just in case. And despite wrapping them both very carefully, you never pack them against each other rather you put them separately in secure places. God, the creator of everything, well-informed of young men and women’s carnal desires has ordered that those who are alien to each other must live separately from one another. And both men and women must observe their own veiling (Hejaab) outside of their family ring. Otherwise, as we realized, women at their menopause, when drastic physiological changes take place in their body, they would have choice to keep their veiling on not, provide not be careless about their beauties.
Due to female hormones, women have less hair on their skins, while the more active tissues like their breasts are more susceptible to actinic rays with their photochemical activities. But hair with its horny tissue is considered as the best protective material against damaging effect of such rays. Farmers, sailors, and fishermen who work regularly under the sunshine for living usually develop skin cancer mostly on their lips, ears, and neck, or hairless areas if they do not cover themselves well specially on sunny day between 10 AM till 3 PM.. It has been also proved that sunscreen lotions with any strength have not been as effective against the damaging effect of actinic rays as covering the skin. That is why repeatedly the strength of these lotions has been increased without being very effective.
All human cells have double-helix chromosomes containing DNA information. During cell division these two strands should separate from each other to make new cells. The more a cell is divisible, the more is susceptible to be exposed to actinic rays that its DNA changes. The glandular section of the breast tissue in women is very active to replicate to produce milk. Therefore, this part of the breast is very susceptible to become cancerous after exposing to actinic rays. In non-Muslims communities, women do not care to cover themselves completely. And they swim when actinic ray is in its highest damaging level. These factors would increase the chance of breast cancer among non- Muslims women. That is why the rate of cancer in those communities is much higher than Muslim women who usually cover themselves.
Since God has ever been the best protector of true faithful; He has revealed terrific instructions just for their protection, therefore veiling is one of them that protects women both morally and physically
It is incumbent upon Us to help true believers in every respect either spiritually, morally, or physically. 30-47
وكان حقاٌعلينانصرالمؤمنين.
How veiling does protect women morally and physically?
Being decent in their conducts outside of their family ring tremendously protect women against getting hurt either morally or physically. This is because obeying Islamic rule makes both men and women free of vulgarity, banality, and immorality. In Islamic society, women are authorized to keep exclusively their attractiveness, fascination, charming, elegance, coquette among their intimate relatives only. But outside of their home they should behave in conformity with the standard rules of Islamic legislation, in this regard, if they want to be safe of any danger.
In other words, women should be careful about the kind of dressing, the way of talking, and the manner of their behavior against men alien to them.
Without explaining the reasons of commands, and making Islamic laws difficult to understand; true prophetic traditions have ordered men, for instance, to grow beards without divulging that having beard will protect them against the exposure of actinic rays when working hours under the direct sun-shine. And covered women in public and protect their health as well as their dignity.
In the first two years of life children are very susceptible to get their identification through their own mothers. Through these years known as formative stage, they are vulnerable to yield to temptation or persuasion when their growth and development take place. Getting right identification, availability of one of parents especially mother is required. Should we expect our children to get their true identification when both parents work outside and their children grow under unkind situation? One of the reasons why children stand against their own parents and they may kill them is being alien to them. Islam is not against women to improve their knowledge, because God Himself taught Adam every sort of knowledge, and He instructed the Prophet to say, “O Lord! Increase my knowledge.” 20, 114
How can a corpse without life be life-giver? Can a blind lead another blind?

When women feel more convenient to choose other religion than Islam because they feel themselves free from many restrictions, they would never be good role model to bring up decent children for next generations. And when men also find that other faiths are more suitable for themselves and women than Islam because they would have more opportunity to enjoy secret romance with women on their jobs, they couldn’t be good father for raising respectable children for future. And when both men and women look after their own self-indulgence and disregard rearing their children, no one can expect the morality of his society get any better, whereas Islamic instruction is absolutely opposite to this way of thinking. Describing the servant of the Most Gracious God, it reveals, ’Those who say, ‘Our Lord, grant us partners and offspring to be the source of comfort of our eyes, and make us to be leader of the righteous.” 25: 74
والذين يقولون ربناهب لنامن ازواجناوذرياتناقرهٌ اعين واجعلناللمتقين اماما.
In fact, this sort of free living among men and women is very dangerous to the morality of public, because this kind of secret relation has not been duly regarded in non-Islamic societies. And man and woman can have unethical relations without punishment as far as they please each other with money or the fulfillment of whatever promise. But if they cannot reach an agreement and the case is reported to the court of law, the offender will be fined or put into jail for a while. As you can see, this kind of law enforcement cannot be helped at all, because rich people can freely commit whatever indecency they want without being fined by keeping their offense secret and paying hush money. And the case will be forgotten after a while. On the other hand, Islamic legislation has considered a proper punishment for every illegal relation between men and women alien to each other. And anyone who commits immodesty either males or females, not only should be confirmed by two or four witnesses (depending on the case) but corporal not pecuniary punishment should be applied with the presence of other believers. Corporal punishment in public means that any violator moral laws will be disgraced in public and reminded to be punished the same.
As you see, Islamic doctrine has made higher educational instructions for sociopolitical fabric of its society and believers.
The following verses, among many others, will display how women will be protected if they observe Islamic instructions.
“O wives of the prophet! You are not like any of other woman if you take care of your duties before God; you should not talk softly lest anyone in those whose heart is sick might move with desire; but you should only speak directly and clearly.”33-32
يانساء النبي لستنٌ كاحد من النساء ان اتقيتنٌ فلاتخضعن بالقول فيطمع الذي في قلبه مرض وقلن قولامعروفا.
Although the above verse has been addressed exclusively to the wives of the prophet, it does not mean that other women in any community could be otherwise.
“O prophet, command your wives, and daughters, and the wives of believers to draw near their long-loose-outer-garments over themselves. This is the best convenient way for them to be recognized modest and decent and avoid being morally insulted and physically got hurt.”33: 59
ياايهاالنبي قل لازواجك وبناتك ونساء المؤمنين‘يدنين عليهٌن من جلابيبهنٌ، ذلك ادني ان‘يعرفن فلا‘يؤذين وكان الله غفورارحيما.

Polygamy in Islam
The state of having more than one spouse at a time for men up to four is not invented by Islam. Before dawning of Islam, polygamy was usual practice for rich people to have more than 200 women in their harem, set aside for their wives. Islam has adjusted and limited it up to four wives provided fairness among them is considered seriously. For many natural, socio-economic, and spiritual reasons; not for men’s self-indulgence; Islam has enacted polygamy. Since mortality rate among male infants is higher than female, women exceed men in number by 4%. Since life expectancy in women is higher than men, life-insurance companies usually offer better rate for women than men with the same age. Drastic hormonal decline in women makes them for a short term sexually active which is not the case with men. The presence of sex hormone in male and female develops secondary sex characteristic one of which is strong sexual drive toward opposite sex. Assuming that all men, according to monogamy rule, married to one woman, what would be the best solution for young unmarried with their strong sexual impulse?
1) Are they doomed to remain unmarried in their whole life?
2) Can they have out-of-wedlock relation with men already married?
3) Or can they be as the second wife of married men?
The first alternative wouldn’t be acceptable at all, because Omniscient God put sex hormones in male and female to legally be attracted to each other for the continuation of their generation. Some people may try to disregard their sexual drive for a while but they cannot resist and if they insist on, their sex drive will be corrupted in unethical forms.
That is why monasticism has been strongly rejected by Islam.
Since no punishment is inserted in the law-enforcement of non- Islamic countries for such relation, men and women alien to each other can have some relation without being punished provided they keep their relation secret and please each other. Therefore the second choice is not a right solution, because their legal marital relation may break up when their secret relation becomes divulged.
The third solution is the best that Islamic legislation accepted to be enforced under dome terms and regulations.
When Pharaoh made the disequilibrium between men and women worst by killing sons and saving women, they enforced women to be shameful for their compulsory decency. And this situation was, in fact, a great affliction from God by the hands the people of Pharaoh.
“Remember when We saved you from the people of Pharaoh who imposed you the worst torment, that is to kill your sons and keep your women alive to be ashamed of their own indecency, and in this there was a great affliction from your Lord.” 2: 49
واذنجيناٌكم من أل فرعون يسومونكم سوء العذاب‘يذبحوٌن ابنائكم ويستحيون نسائكم وفي ذلكم بلاء من ربكم عظيم.
Through D.N.A. investigation, people think that the designation of a direct line of a child to his real father is very easy therefore Islamic rule is no longer good for women to remain monogamous. Some people say that it is not fair that men can be polygamous while women must be monogamous. Others believe that men should be monogamous as women are. All these points are nothing new in the mind of the people of today. In 14 century ago, women asked Imam Ali (A.S.), “Why women cannot have four husbands as men can?” Speaking very ingenuous, Imam said, “Bring me an empty wash-tub and asked each woman to bring him a cup of any sort of water she may have either warm, cold, clear, cloudy, fresh, salty, colored, or whatever. He said, pour the water you brought in into wash tub, Imam then asked them, “Could you take back the water you had brought in?” Since they failed to do so, Imam told them because of this, you can never identify the father’s child therefore you cannot have four husbands.
Assuming that a woman has four husbands with the same blood types, by all means the blood type cannot help us to precisely find out the lineage of the child.
Although D.N.A. investigation is very specific, it cannot exactly specify the lineage of the child. In other words, children’s D.N.A. have neither similarity to their mother nor father, if not, valuable D.N.A. would lose its unique value in criminal cases. If child’s D.N.A. molecule had any close similarity to his mother or father’s D.N.A., in any criminal case, judge could take the child instead of mother of father. Is the finger print of a child close to that of his father or mother? We never know how the two D.N.A. of mother and father combine to make child’s D.N.A.
Again you will find that Islamic rules are real truths revealed by the knowledge and wisdom of God not falsehood formulated by inexperienced or ignorant people.
“That is because God is truly truth and whatever they call besides Him is false, and because God is truly the High, the Great.” 22: 62
ذلك بان الله هوالحقٌ وانٌ مايدعون من دونه هوالباطل وانٌ الله هوالعليٌ الكبير.
Overwhelming people believe that God’s laws should be changed as time passes by as human’s laws must be changed. They think that God’s knowledge is limited just as human’s knowledge. They know nothing that not only does God’s Knowledge encompass everything but with Mercy and Compassion. 40: 7
As a result, when Allah has decreed that women must stay with one husband only, this law will be effective to the end of this life and never will change.

Women are not authorized to be busy with any of the following positions
1-Women must not be considered morally so cheap like commercial articles to be passed from hand to hand but materially so expensive to be equal to men. Women, in Islamic view are so valued beings, like peaces of precious gems, to be touched by men alien to them. Valuable women in Islam are not like play things to be treated as toys. They should not touch, hug, or even shake hand with foreign men, let alone kiss them as movie stars do. That is foreign movies are not authorized to be exhibited in Muslims countries.
2- Seductress, coquette, or semi nude women are not authorized to advertise. In other words, the beauty of women must be a means for selling products, though they can advertise products while they meet all codes of modesty.
3-Women are not bound to contribute with their husbands in household expenses. But it is fine if they wish to help their husband deliberately. This issue is one of the reasons why they should receive half of men inheritance. While women are financially independent, not spend for household expenses, they should pay their due charity, and inherit their parents if they still alive.
4-Due to their physiological barriers such as monthly menstrual period, pregnancy, and nursing; they are advised to stay home, when sexually active, to take care of themselves as well as their children both physically and spiritually rather than leaving home for work
“Those mothers who desire to suckle their children for two whole years to complete nursing time, father is in charge of the cost of living and clothing in all fairness. No soul should be burdened greater that it can bear. No mother should get hurt on account of her child, nor father on account of his child.” 2: 233
والوالدات‘يرضعن اولادهن حولين كاملين لمن ارادان‘يتمٌ الرضاعه، وعلي المولودله رزقهنٌ زكسوتهنٌ بالمعروف،لا‘تكلفٌ نفس الاوسعها،لا‘تضارٌوالده بولدها ولامولوله بولده.
Thoughtful mothers who work at home to nurse their children for two years tremendously save their own health as well as that of their children. The incidence of cancer in such mothers is much lower than those who do not nurse their children. The rate of ear infection in breast feeding children is very rare. And bilateral enjoyment of both mother and child when mothers keep their children in their bosoms is beyond words.
5- It is not necessary for women to be elegant or charm for men who are alien to them to remain on their jobs or get promotion. Their skill, knowledge, honesty and modesty will suffice them to get promotion.
6-Since men and women are paid equally in Islamic societies, as wage earners, women do not need to attend X-rated jobs to be paid more. In other words, Islam, having life saving instructions, keeps its societies seriously away from any corruption, for instance, making any pornographic material.
7-Muslim women should stay home to commit her essential and routine chores. They should take care of their children, husbands and prepare fresh foods and make their home a peaceful residence for everyone. Though they are not essentially restricted to their homes, they should take their husband permission for going out. Once they are out of their houses, their behaviors are modest, firm and dignitary, and they reserve their charming, elegance and tenderness for their husbands, children inside of the framework of their houses.
How women are supported in Islam?
As it was mentioned before, according to Islamic legislation, men have a quasi- guardianship over women, it means that they are responsible for the care and management of all costs of living for themselves as well as their wives and children. Therefore there are numerous revelations that clearly state the kind of responsibility many of which have been explained before in previous section of this presentation. To confirm the concrete facts that how Islam has protected women against men and secure their socio-economic rights some other revelations will come to your attention.
1-“Your wives are like a soil of cultivation of yours, so come to your soil whenever you wish, and give up yourselves to God (for good deed or good child), and guard yourself before God, and know that you will surely meet Him, and give good news to believers.” 2: 223
نسائكم حرث لكم فاتواحرثكم انيٌ شئتم وقدمواٌ لانفسكم،واتقواالله واعلمواانٌكم ملاقوه،وبشرٌالمؤمنين.
2-The probationary period for men, who swear they don’t get in touch with their wives, is only four months but if they go back from their oath, surely God is Forgiving, Merciful.” 2: 226
للذين‘يؤلون من نسائهم تربصٌ اربعه اشهر، فان فاؤافانٌ الله غفوررحيم.
3-“Women have rights equal to those against them in all fairness, but men have a degree over them and God is Almighty, All-Wise.” 2: 228
ولهنٌ مثل الذي عليهنٌ بالمعروف، وللرجال عليهنٌ درجه، والله عزيزحكيم.
4-“The revocable divorce in which men can withdraw it and resume his relation is twice. During this period, men can keep their wives in all fairness) without harassing them in any form), or let them go with the performance of good deed (without disregarding her right and putting them under pressure). It is not lawful for men to take back any of the gift (dowry) you have given them unless both of them cannot stay within the limit of God. If you fear that they are not able to keep the limit of God, there is no blame on them if she redeems to become free thereby. These are the limits of God, thus do not exceed them, and those who exceed will be unjust.” 2: 229
الطلاق مرتاٌن فامساك بمعروف اوتسريح باحسان،ولايحلٌ لكم ان تاخذوامماأتيتموهنٌ شيئاالا ان ‘يقيماحدودالله فلاجناح عليهمافيماافتدت به،تلك حدودالله فلاتعتدوهاومن يتعدٌحدودالله فاولئك هم الظالمون.
5-“During the period of divorce, let them live where you live according to your means, do not harass them to make life tight to them. And if they are pregnant spend on them until they deliver their babies, and if they suckle your child give them their recompenses. And take counsel between you in fairness, and if you found suckling difficult, then let another woman suckle baby on behalf of the father.” 65” 6
اسكنوهنٌ من حيث سكنتم من وجدكم ولا‘تضاروهنٌ لتضيقواعليهنٌ، وان كنٌ اولات حمل فانفقواعليهنٌ حتي يضعن حملهنٌفان ارضعن لكم فاتوهنٌ اجورهنٌ،وائتمروابينكم بمعروف، وان تعاسرتم فسترضع له‘اخري.
6-“When you divorce women and they reached the end of their term, either take them back in all fairness or let them go in all fairness. Do not take them back to harass them and exceed the limit. And whoever does this is doing wrong to himself, and do not take the revelations of God as jokes.” 2: 231
واذاطلقتم النساء فبلغن اجلهنٌ فامسكزهنٌ بمعروف اوسرحزهنٌ بمعروف،ولاتمسكوهنٌ ضرارا لتعتدوا،ومن يفعل ذلك فقدظلم لنفسه،ولاتتخذواأيات الله هزوا.
We believe that these series of revelation as well as many others dispersed in this article will suffice to confirm that there is no doubt that Islam has not disregarded any of women’s rights in their social and personal life.
Why women cannot divorce their husbands?
Marriage sounds the best in the sight of God but divorce looks the most detested before Him.
Women are naturally very emotional. They get excited easily to the least unpleasant situations; therefore, they may soon submit their cases to the court of law for divorce on any insignificant issue. Statistics have proven that the rate of divorce in the west has ever been much higher than in any Muslim communities. Many revelations encouraging marriage to the easiest way, and God has made its conditions very easy. But there is no revelation advocating people for divorce, while God committed both to observe many difficult tasks, because He knows well that separation after a long term of compassion among them would be so difficult for them specially their small children.
“One of His signs is that He created mate for you from your own nature in order to take rest with them and He put between you a tender love and compassion; in fact, in this settlement of mutual love there are signs for those who think. 30: 21
ومن أياته ان خلق لكم من انفسكم ازواجالتسكنوااليهاوجعل بينكم موده ورحمه،انٌ في ذلك لأيات لقوم يتفكرون.
There are two kinds of divorce, revocable and irrevocable.
“The revocable divorce in which men can withdraw it and resume his relation is twice. During this period, men can either keep their wives in all fairness) without harassing them in any form), or let them go with the performance of good deed (without disregarding their rights and putting them under pressure). 2: 229
الطلاق مرتاٌن فامساك بمعروف اوتسريح باحسان.
God, the Most Compassionate brought up Mohammad (Peace and greeting is due to him) as an orphan to have personal feeling of orphanhood (fatherless or motherless or both) in order to discourage believers to divorce their wives and make their children fatherless or motherless. That is why handling orphans with love has been sincerely advised while divorce is seriously prohibited.
The essential conditions under which the pledge of believing women will be acceptable by the prophet to implore God to forgive them.
“O Prophet! When believing women come to give you the pledge of the following, accept their pledge and implore God to forgive them: 1) Associate nothing with God. 2) Steal nothing from their husbands. 3) Commit no adultery. 4) Kill none of their children. 5) Make neither false statement nor fabricate about the child they have. 6) And not disobey you in good things such as praying, fasting, and charity. Surely, God is Forgiving, Merciful.” 60-12
ياايهاالنبي اذاجائك المؤمنات‘يبايعنك علي ان لا‘يشركن بالله شيئا، ولايسرقن، ولايزنين، ولايقتلن اولادهنٌ، ولاياتين ببهتان يفترينه بين ايديهنٌ وارجلهنٌ، ولايعصينك في معروف، فبايعهنٌ واستغفرلهنٌ الله،انٌ الله غفوررحيم.
In summary
“Do not accept any information, unless you verify it; or do not persist on what you have no knowledge. Indeed, the hearing, the sight, and the brain, all of that will be questioned for the way you used them.” 17: 36
ولاتقف ماليس لك به علم، انٌ السمع والبصروالفوأدكل اولئك كان عنه مسؤولا.
It is shame that most people do not use their faculties as they should do. One of the most serious mistakes of people is their failure to apply their faculties when they read, look at, or listen to any fact. As a result, it is revealed, “Do they believe in falsehood but reject the blessing of God?” 16: 72
افبالباطل يؤمنون وبنعمت الله هم كافرون؟.
In his famous sermon on the day of Arafat, Imam Hussein (A.S.) said, “O God! How can I meet you, with my ears, eyes, tongue, hands, and feet? Are they not precious faculties you entrusted to me to apply them properly but I disobeyed you by abusing them?
If women wouldn’t be highly regarded in God’s sight, every single of their problems would not be revealed in detail throughout the Qur'an. Do you know how many verses deal with men and women all together? And how many delicate points about different aspects of women have been raised in the Holy Quran? Rewards and punishments are awarded equally to both. A big chapter “The women” and a small one named “The divorce” as well as many other chapters scattered throughout the Quran such as chapters 2, 3, 24, 33, 49, 58; are good indication for the value of women in Islam?
In any emergency room, disregarding those who brought dead; medical doctors usually deal more carefully with whom they can save life. In Islamic culture, women are not dead like statues; on the contrary, they are very active members of their communities to raise valuable children with decent characters for the up coming generations.
If menopausal women are not necessary to cover themselves completely before alien men, because of losing their attractiveness, young charming women are advised to be very cautious about their dress, behavior and the way of talking before men alien to them.
Although non-Muslims look down on veiled women with contempt, Hijaab is a sign of modesty, an emblem of dignity and a means of prestige of women in every society.
Chapter 12 of the book Leviticus of the Old Testament discriminates women for their natural phenomenon when they give birth to a boy or girl. When a woman delivers a male baby, she will be unclean for one week and bleeding will continue for 33 days during which she should not touch any hallowed thing. But when she delivers a female baby, she would be unclean for two weeks and bleeding will continue for 66 days during which she should not touch any hallowed thing. Today we know that after the delivery of infant and placenta, hormonal level would plummets heavily and there is no reason that post partum period will be so different.
Non-Muslims believe that women are attractive and lovable for men but they are so unclean during monthly periods that make everything unclean, so they should not touch hallowed things. In other words, according to them, women are lovely or ugly, ugly in their post-partum and monthly period but lovely in other time, whereas women in Islam are precious like gem stone and delicate like mirror that they should keep them at home away from the view of foreign men, and their out going should be considered with cautious measure.
Most people, unaware of the reality of Islamic revelation, disparage Islam for its restrictive measures about young male and female relation. While disregarding blooming sex appeal in youths, instead of training them how to restrain themselves from sex, they commit great mistake to advise them absolutely against Islamic instructions. Taking girl or boy friend and changing their friends, as many as they want, without parents’ objection, make youths careless about their essential duties, the moral aspect of life. Advising teenagers to wear condom as prophylactic measure for venereal diseases or contraception only is the most dangerous advices to make them promiscuous with their spouses in future. But Islam, in this respect, trains the youth absolutely different.
“Let those who do not find the means to get married, keep themselves chaste, until God makes them free from want out of His grace.”24: 33
وليستعفف الذين لايجدون نكاحاحتي‘يغنيهم الله من فضله.
“Do not force your slave girls into prostitution, if they want to be chaste in order to get the frail things of this world.” 4: 33
ولاتكرهوفتياتكم علي البغاء ان اردن تحصنا لتبتغواعرض الحيوه الدنيا،ومن يكرههن فان الله بعد اكراههن غفوررحيم.
"If your slaves ask you to set them free through writing you, write them then if you deem their emancipation is advisable and give them from the wealth which God has given to you.” 24: 33
والذين يبتغون الكتاب مماملكت ايمانكم فكاتبوهم ان علمتم فيهم خيرا، وأتوهم من مال الله الذي أتاكم.
Chapter 22, in the book of Deuteronomy is allocated to different forms of illegal sexual relationship. If a man, for instance, sees a man lying with a betrothed of another man and brings them to the gate of that city should stone them to death. Stoning to death in the Old Testament is that easy that suffice it a man see and bring them to the gate and people should stone them to death. It is though very difficult in Islam to prove the case and four witnesses are required to testify, while for the case of killing two witnesses are enough. In addition if there is no witness to testify but one, the court of law will release them if they swear by God five times that they are innocent. But if the reporter is revealed to be a liar, will be whipped 80 lashes and his testimony would never be accepted.
“Those who accused married women but failed to bring four witnesses, then whip them 80 lashes and do not accept any testimony from them ever because they are the wicked.” 24: 4
والذين يرمون المحضنات ثم لم يأتواباربعه شهداء فاجلدواهم ثمانين جلده ولاتقبلوالهم شهاده ابداو اولئك هم الفاسقون.
The four kinds of out-of-wed-lock or extra marital relation known as taboo (unlawful sexualities) are named and punished differently.
1- Sexual contact between two unmarried persons is called “Fornication”.
2- Forcing another person to submit to a sexual intercourse is called “rape”.
3-When very close persons related by birth or blood, have sexual relation, it is called “incest”.
4- When a married person lies with the wife of another person is called “Adultery”.
To remind a few points
1-Do not be frustrated that people disregarding faith are so prosperous in many material aspects of life, while faithful people are so unsuccessful in this regard.
God has revealed a clear indication for such situation.
“When they forgot for what We reminded them, We opened the gate of everything to them but when they were rejoicing in full measure of what they were granted, We suddenly take them all back, so they will plunge in an utter despair. 6: 44
فلمانسواما‘ذكرواٌبه فتحناابواب كل شيئ،حتي اذافرحوابمااوتوااخذناهم بغته فاذاهم مبلسون.
“Do not be like those who forgot God, so He made them overlook their own souls to see what is good or evil for themselves; as a result, they became the wicked.”59: 19
ولاتكونواكالذين نسواالله فانسيهم انفسهم اولئك هم الفاسقون.
“And those who reject Ore revelations We promote their life gradually without realizing it. And I respite them, surely My scheme is formidable.” 7: 182, 183
والذين كذبواٌبأياتنا سنستدرجهم من حيث لايعلمون، و‘املي لهم انٌ كيدي متين.
2-Comparing non-Muslim with Muslim communities is absolutely ridiculous. The correlation between advanced technology and morality in non-Muslim communities is always negative. The more technology advances the more morality retrogrades. Erroneously most people while disregarding morality think only about technology and its advancement, including Muslim people. And overwhelming people just take pride of their own technology, and forget God’s help. They live on the basis of His daily bread but they do not worship and thank Him for all His Mercy and Compassion. They eat three times a day to energize their body but they do not think about God once a day.
Let us seriously pray:
Various factors including our whims, other people, evil omen created by God to test us, and natural phenomena threatening us continuously distract us from the natural path, yet better the straight path of God. That is why we should implore Him to protect us against all those distracting factors and keep us on His path. Therefore as He Himself has inspired us, we implore Him.
“Say, ‘O unbelievers, I will never worship what you worship today. Nor will you ever worship what I worship today. Nor will I be worshipping what you worship today. Nor will you be worshipping what I worship. To you will be your religion, and to me will be my religion.” Chapter 109
“Say, He is the One and the only one God. God is eternally and absolutely self-sufficient. Never did He beget, nor was ever He begotten, and nothing equals Him.” Chapter112
“ay, ‘I take refuge in the Lord of daybreak, from whatever evil He has created, and from the evil of darkness when fallen in, and from the out pouring evil of complexes, and from the evil of the envious when envying.” Chapter 113
“Say, ‘I take refuge in the Lord of people, the Ruler of people, the God of people from the evil of sneaky whisperer, who whisper into the chests of people, whether from Jinns or people.” Chapter 114
